Exhibition galleries
Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 7:45 PM (galleries open at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Please note that the last admission for exhibition visitors will be 45 minutes prior to closing.
Library
Monday, and Wednesday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM
Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 7:45 PM (the library opens at 12:00 PM the second Tuesday of the month)
Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Staff retrieves materials up to 45 minutes before the library closes. Reading room closes 15 minutes before the library.
An advance appointment is strongly encouraged for all researchers. Please log-in to your Portal1791 account to select your preferred visit dates.
Upcoming Closures
- The MHS is closed Monday, 20 January, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- The Library is closed on Tuesday, 11 February.
- The MHS is closed Monday, 17 February, in observance of Presidents' Day.
- The Library closes early at 4:00PM on Wednesday, 20 March.
- The MHS is closed Monday, 21 April, in observance of Patriots' Day.
- The MHS is closed Saturday, 24 May through Monday, 26 May, in observance of Memorial Day.
- The MHS is closed Thursday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
- The MHS is closed Friday, July 4 through Saturday, July 5 for Independence Day weekend.
Admission
The MHS is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome in the galleries; library readers must be at least 16 years of age or accompanied by an adult.
The MHS is located in a Nationally Registered Landmark building. It is equipped with a wheelchair ramp, interior ramps, and elevator that allow visitors with mobility impairments access to our reading room, exhibition galleries, and other public meeting spaces.
